Thoughts on the Anime Blogosphere and the ‘Otaku’ Elimination Game

War ain’t what it used to be.
Yeah yeah, I was gonna post about Durarara!! but that’ll be up for later. Right now I’m interested in something that was posted in the comments section of a post on the ‘Otaku’ Elimination Game. I’ve had a lot of thoughts surrounding it ever since it began but I’ve been holding myself from expressing them too much. Now I think it’s about time to let it loose.

Twelve Moments Posts 10 & 11 – This Time It All Goes South

Merry Christmas folks! It’s 24th around these corners, which means presents and a whole ton of shitty Finnish Christmas food. Seriously, who the hell can like the ham? It tastes like nothing and there’s always a huge ton of it, so it takes weeks to get rid of that gray wood-tasting substance (except that wood actually tastes quite decent). And those with turkey, shut the hell up. Turkey is even worse, why on earth does anyone even eat it. It’s like Seitokai no Ichizon if it was food. But on to the subject at hand.

Nova’s Singapore Trip Days 6, 7 and 8 – Imma Chargin Ma Laysia

I might have already exhausted myself at AFA both physically and financially but there was no rest for the wicked, next up was a one-day visit to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Trying my best to fight off the temptation to sleep a bit longer, I left for Changi airport at 5am and boarded a bargain flight to KL. One really good thing about this trip was that I got a chance to see Singapore from the air, thanks to a window seat and having enough sunlight to actually see outside. It struck me how small SG really is, you could really see the whole nation in one glance. The thing is, out in the streets Singapore doesn’t feel that small at all because the rather flat topography and tall buildings blocking your view.

Nova’s Singapore Trip Days 4 & 5 – Anime Festival Asia ‘09

AFA Day One
So the first day of Anime Festival Asia was at hand and I headed over to the Suntec Convention Center at 9am. And holy shit, the queue. Thankfully I was provided with a media-pass (really big thanks to the AFA crew for it) which got me past the line of camping enthusiasts and inside the convention hall before the actual opening. Which was pretty good, because once the doors opened to the public, the whole place was swarmed within minutes and taking anything but figurine close-up pics became almost impossible.

Nova’s Singapore Trip Days 2 & 3 – Just Post Already Lah

Day 2 – Thursday 19th of Nov.
Yeah, it’s day three already but I was honestly too beat last night to push out a post. My 747 from Frankfurt arrived on schedule to Singapore and as soon as I marched out of the baggage claim, I was greeted by Xak and Hakuro who helped me getting things set up (public wireless access, mass transit pass etc.) and escorted me to my hotel. This is actually my first time to a truly big city (Singapore has about as much inhabitants as Finland) and Singaporean English is very difficult to understand sometimes, so it was really a lot of help to have a few locals to show me around.
