Annotated Blogroll of Sorts – Some Recent Discoveries

Eye’ve already won the ABT, so it’s time to share the love!

Amusingly my previous post turned out to be quite popular. In fact, it’s right now the most commented post I have ever written and considering its age the most read as well. Looks like getting a cheap tablet on my NY trip paid off. Even if it meant having to pay for more bandwidth to avoid getting shut down. Anyway, one of the comments mentioned the argument that ABT at least allows “cross pollination” of sorts, to which someone responded that you could just fart out annotated blogroll posts for that purpose. Well, that’s pretty much true. And since I’ve gotten some exposure recently thanks to all this meta insanity, I thought I might as well share the love a bit. So here are three blogs that I’ve stumbled upon more or less recently and whom I feel deserving more attention.

Let’s start with hikago’s Beer and Blog, or Short Circuited, whichever is the proper title. Ah, that plain WP.com default theme, brings back memories. You wouldn’t believe at first, but hikago has been in business longer than me, and a closer inspection quickly reveals this. I mean, just look at this stuff. That’s some badass dynamic blogging right there. Not to mention that hikago has some admirable creativity when it comes to comics and charts. Plus he loves beer, that’s always a good sign. I’ve been trying to recruit the Canadian bastard to write for me instead, but he’s playing hard to get :(

Next up is the man with enough recklessness and inconsideration of his mental and physical health to repeatedly dive into the murk and slimy waters of Finnish comics, and expose his disturbing findings to the rest of the world. Say hello to Finnish Comics Dissected, who has a specific taste for examining the horrors of Finnish pseudo-manga. Of course his tough profession takes its toll, but this guy is virtually indestructible. Just when you think he’s down, he stands up again and wobbles back into the ring. The sheer determination of his is already worthy of recognition. And then there’s his merciless criticism that doesn’t hesitate to hit where it hurts and drag every single mistake out for mocking. But he has his soft spots as well and gives credit to where it’s due. Besides you gotta admit, some of this stuff is pretty damn fucked up shit
His English is pretty rough around the edges but hey, it’s the thought that counts!

Lastly there’s Moogy’s Anime Blog, a recent addition to my watch list. Man do I wish I had discovered this guy earlier. This is the kind of stuff I absolutely love to read. Relatively short, impulsive, humoristic and above all aggressive, and it’s all funny because more often than not he’s also speaking the truth. Now, I don’t agree with even half of the stuff he says about things, but I’m not immature enough to let that bother me. Not to mention that in addition to being snarky and sarcastic, he also writes some pretty damn informative stuff. Besides he’s right: Blogrolls are for suckers.

Based on true events…

Well, that’s all for now. I’ve finished up my thesis and other immediate school matters, and preparing to move back to my hometown this weekend. Four weeks of typing torture have finally ended (for the time being, I still have the thesis defense in June) and I’m amazed I made it through without losing the last bit of my sanity. Feels like taking a dump after a month of constipation. Which I’ve actually had as well. Now if you’ll excuse me…
