Twelve Moments #3 – Clannad After Story Episode 19
Many people thought ep 18 was the emo bomb but in my case, episode 19 was the one that did the trick. I was mildly drunk, sitting alone in a dark hostel room somewhere in Austria, watching this particular episode on my old and beat-up laptop. The first part was pretty bland stuff, about Tomoya bringing his daughter to preschool and stuff. It was good but nothing worth writing about – in fact the only thing I remembered about the episode before looking it up was the latter part. You know, when Tomoya finally sets aside his grudge and confronts his father Naoyuki as a grown man. I don’t know exactly why but I found this scene extremely touching and I don’t think I’ve ever been that close to tears when watching anime, not even at the end of AIR. Of course AS had a lot of emotional scenes but for me this hit the hardest. I can’t even pin down what part exactly was the critical element but it was just damn touching.
