First Impressions on Seitokai no Ichizon

Getting straight to the point. Me so bad.

It’s not like I was going to write an essay about it but I sincerely hoped Seitokai no Ichizon would’ve given me at least something more to say than these few paragraphs and some IRC-ranting.

Let me go straight down to the point. Seitokai no Ichizon isn’t as good as it could’ve been. And it’s not bad enough to be hilarious either. Although it starts off quite good with some Haruhi- and Lucky Star-references which are the bread n’ butter of otaku reference comedies, most of the show is rather void from actually amusing moments. In fact I probably would’ve made a decision to drop the show already had it not been for the pettanko-gag to which I lol’d for quite a bit. The characters feel two-dimensional to the extent that it blocks the show from reaching its full comedic effect. A common problem with first episodes, I’m sure, but more efficient directing could’ve done a lot. Also, Ken sucks. His harem-enthusiasm is funny yeah, sort of, but for God’s sake you don’t have to keep rubbing it in. The show wastes precious screen time having him on the screen babbling about his harem ad nauseam with girls repeating the same retorts over and over.

The first episode of Seitokai no Ichizon offers a couple of laughs but little else. The OP stands out by being the very definition of plainness and all in all the audiovisual execution from character art to seiyuu work is mediocre at most. It’s not like the show is hopelessly bad or anything; it’s just rather plain aside from a few smart gags and a decent setting. Will remain on schedule; however, if/when the time comes to drop something, it will be among the first to go.

P.S. It’s not like all hope is lost. Maybe KyoAni will throw in a lawlsuit for the blatant parodies for mad drama and lulz.
