End of the Line – Nova’s Goodbye Speech

Author: NovaJinx

Goal.

I kind of hate to do this, but I’m going to write it up here anyway. I’ve decided to quit blogging on anime and thus Jinx! will reach its end after two and a half years of operation and close to 100,000 views. I think that’s a good enough milestone to pull the plug on.

Now on to the reasons. It’s nothing out of the usual really. After this blog was hacked and my determination was wavering, someone told me to just think of the reasons why I should keep on doing this. And yes, I understood that there was no reason left for me to keep blogging. #animeblogger, my original source of inspiration and motivation, has degenerated into an irc-version of such pathetic dumps as /a/ and AnimeSuki. The part of the community that made everything worth while has either disappeared or migrated to Google’s services which I am not willing to join. Also, anime itself has been inspiring me less and less over the past year and I didn’t see any reason to force myself to write up something when there’s absolutely nothing sensible that I can come up with.

Long story short, anime blogging just ceased to be fun and refreshing to me and thus I’m going to throw in the towel. Same happened with my old passion, airsoft, after years of active playing I just couldn’t go on anymore. The only option left was to quit and wait for better times. In the end I picked airsoft up again and currently my interest in it is on the rise. In fact I sense a good niche for a Finnish airsoft-blog…

I may not quit blogging itself for good but the anime blog known as Jinx! is going to end. To any regular subscribers I might have managed to rack up I give my heartfelt thanks.

Farewell,
Nova

    Why does everyone leave me?!

    I’ll miss your posting style…but a man’s gotta do what a man’s gotta do.

At least I can still keep in contact with you anyway :P

  • Mura says:

    Good night, sweet prince.

It’s been a good run, godspeed to you, Nova.

  • kyokii says:

    Nova? Nova?!? NOOOOOOVAAAA!!!!!!!

i will still see you on irc.

  • IKnight says:

I’m sorry to hear you’re wrapping this blog up — I’ve enjoyed reading your posts. Best wishes for the future.

  • Eizei says:

Sorry to hear that. But if you don’t have any motivation left to do this, then its a right choice. Had many good laugh with your blog. Best wishes for the future!

  • drmchsr0 says:

    THERE IS STILL HOPE.

I’m kinda looking for guest writers.

Will you still guest-write from time to time?

Also, your April Fool’s Joke was the best ever.

[Nova] Why not. Just drop me a line on IRC or something, I’m still on irchighway and Rizon.

  • Tsubasa says:

Episode blogging killed the editorial blogging star.

That’s what you get for staring at your pageviews too closely…

[Nova] I do not agree with you. You should keep in mind that I’ve only tried episodic blogging for one 13-ep show to see what it’s like and I never got back into it. In the end pageviews were pretty much the only thing that still kept me at this.

  • Pararin says:

Now you can start your blog of EVE-adventures!

I hope I’ll still see your ranting at IRC.

You’ve got to be kidding me. That place was only good for bunny cuddling and molestation. >:D Ever tried asking for blog advice there? No dice. And that’s perfectly bearable! What isn’t bearable is fuckers like sagematt spoiling stuff. In that sense, I guess it is like the aforementioned communities.

[Nova] NO U. I didn’t really mean that #AB was intelligent community or anything back in the day but it was lively and fun. Nowadays it’s a small bunch of morons flaming anyone they can and occasionally talking about programming or shitty anime.

“Same happened with my old passion, airsoft, after years of active playing I just couldn’t go on anymore.”
Was this caused by lack of inspiration as well? :p

[Nova] I suppose. It wasn’t really something I could put my finger on. I just felt fed up with everything about it and couldn’t get any kicks out of it like I used to.

    “Why does everyone leave me?!”
    lol ;_;

Good luck and everything Nova. Airsoft sounds like fun.. I should take up some sort of activity involving fake weapons.

  • ryan aloevera gel says:

    WAT!? Aww :/ I can’t say goodbye. Yaaadaaa~!

But, you’re doing what you want, so perhaps this is a good thing? whether perm or temp, doesn’t matter. But..

don’t forever give up on blogging/writing, or give up the media we all have enjoyed. I’m sure if you want to write more down the line, it’ll work out. Maybe you’ll find something other than anime/manga to write about months or years from now, who knows.

    Expression is Power :)
