So, let me come clean: I haven’t seen Neon Genesis Evangelion. Please take your time and laugh at my newfaggotry. Now that you can feel a bit cooler, let me proceed with the excuses. I’ve intended to watch EVA for over a year now but somehow I never got around to actually doing it until now. It’s not that I was looking for epic experience or anything – I simply wanted to understand what makes EVA so notorious as it is and as a fan of the silent girl type I was also curious to see what all the ga ga for Rei is about.

The obligatory Rei-post
By the time of writing this post I have reached the sixth episode and if there’s something I’ve noticed by now it is that Evangelion episodes seem to distort the space-time in a way that makes every episode feel very short. I swear it’s the first time I’ve come to realize this so clearly and am yet to fully understand the reasons behind it, but there’s no denying how apparent it is – EVA seems to skip through time even though the pace of the show isn’t all that fast. Aside from that it does remind me of Idolm@ster Xenoglossia a whole lot, with less chicks and overall retardedness of course (at least Shinji isn’t gay for EVA 01…yet). I was expecting somewhat more whinyness on Shinji’s part but nevertheless he does seem to live up to the hype pretty good in that regard. Then again it’s nothing that I wouldn’t expect of 14 year old facing such circumstances as him plus the additional daddy issues – although I sure would like him to at least decide whether he wants to run away or pilot the damn EVA already. You know, it’s kinda uncool when you’re trying to do both. What I liked though was that Shinji isn’t really victim to the “middle school students who look and act like twenty year olds“-treatment common in anime series. Maybe it wasn’t that popular back in the day, who knows. All in all the show doesn’t seem too bad for the time being, no sign of the notorious angstfests…but oh well, there’s still 20 episodes to go. Another post on the way once I’m halfway through.

That’s more like it.
Btw, Misato fucking rocks.
