Stakes High At Desucon – Furuya Tohru Announced As Guest Of Honor
Author: nova

I apologize for posting news – it’s not like me I know. But bear with me, I had nothing else to post either. Desucon, the first con to be organized by Kehittyvien conien Suomi (KcS), managed to make its way into headlines as the organizing group announced the seiyuu veteran Furuya Tohru to be the convention’s guest of honor. KcS is a group born to address the lack of development in the Finnish anime conventions thus far and in a way Desucon is taking the role of Barack Obama of local anime convention culture (no, really) – and with this announcement the stakes just got higher. Tsubasa, one of the leading figures among the Desucon organizers, has already published an announcement on his blog, shedding some light on the apathy that apparently dominates the Finnish convention organizing – as well as daringly declaring “So from this point on let the action speak louder than words.“.

Will Desucon succeed in breaking the mould of Finnish anime conventions being more or less excuses for cosplay-contests and wearing Naruto-headbands in public? Or will the convention’s slogan “New And Most Certainly Totally Different Event” turn out to be all talk? We’ll see about that in June.
